Tensions flared in Nilphamari’s Jaldhaka as two rival BNP factions scheduled rallies at the same venue, prompting the local administration to impose Section 144 from morning to evening on Tuesday. Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, under the banner of Jaldhaka Nationalist Force, Alamgir Hossain, the secretary of the Upazila Volunteer Wing, organized a five-day fair at the Pilot High School grounds. However, the local BNP leadership claimed they were not informed about the event. On Sunday night, Upazila BNP Secretary Moinul Islam and his supporters vandalized the fair’s entrance, leading to clashes between the two groups. Despite the tensions, both factions continued making public announcements, calling for protest marches at 10 AM on Eid day. To prevent further escalation, authorities enforced Section 144, banning all gatherings in the area.
