Three professors have joined the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) as full-time members. They are Professor Md. Mehedi Hasan Khan of the University of Dhaka’s Population Sciences Department, Professor Dr. Md. Aslam Hossain of its Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, and Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Chowdhury of Bangladesh Medical University’s Vascular Surgery Department. They joined UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam on Monday morning.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry issued the appointment notification on July 26 under Section 4(1)(b) of the Bangladesh University Grants Commission Order, 1973, as amended. Mehedi Hasan Khan is acting dean of the University of Dhaka’s Faculty of Social Sciences and joined its Population Sciences Department as an assistant professor in 2003.

Aslam Hossain has been involved in teaching and research for more than three decades and has published 54 research papers in domestic and international journals. Niaz Ahmed Chowdhury chairs Bangladesh Medical University’s Endovascular and Laser Surgery Department and has more than three decades of experience in medical practice, research and academic leadership. Their appointments are effective from their joining dates and will run for four years.
