Thirteen students were injured in a clash between two groups at the Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute in Kaptai, Rangamati. The incident occurred in the student hostel from about 10:30pm to midnight on Friday. Institute sources said an argument began between the groups over a regional forum and a status posted on mobile phones, before escalating into a confrontation.

Nine injured students received primary treatment and left, while four were being treated at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Institute authorities arranged to send the injured students to hospital at about 1am. Police led by Kaptai police station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel reached the scene and brought the situation under control, dispersing students from both sides.

The institute has formed a seven-member investigation committee led by Automobile Department head Engineer Rahmat Ullah. Acting principal Jahangir Hossain visited the injured students at hospital on Saturday and said necessary action would be discussed after the investigation report is received. Hostel Superintendent Abdul Mannan said the situation is now normal, while vigilance has been increased on campus because end-term examinations are under way.
