Bangladesh’s new Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman will visit New Delhi on April 7, marking the first high-profile bilateral trip since the BNP government led by Tarique Rahman took office. During his two-day stay, he is scheduled to meet Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Although a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not confirmed, discussions are expected to cover renewal of the Ganges treaty, energy supply, connectivity projects, and restoration of suspended trade facilities.

After the Delhi visit, Dr. Rahman and Jaishankar will travel together on April 9 to Mauritius aboard an Air Mauritius commercial flight to attend the ninth Indian Ocean Conference. The event is jointly organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the India Foundation, whose president is BJP leader Ram Madhav. Officials from both countries confirmed the joint travel plan.

Analysts cited in the report view the trip as a signal of recalibration in India-Bangladesh relations after months of strain. Former Indian minister M.J. Akbar described it as a course correction, while others noted that the visit could pave the way for Tarique Rahman’s future trip to India.
