International observers have lauded Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election for its democratic process and peaceful voting environment. The election marked the first national vote since the 2024 mass uprising that ended the Awami League’s 15-year rule, allowing millions of citizens to elect a new government. Foreign representatives reported widespread enthusiasm among voters across the country.

David Dreier, head of the U.S.-based International Republican Institute’s observation team and a former U.S. congressman, described the election as free, fair, and festive after visiting a polling center in Dhaka. He noted the orderly atmosphere and spontaneous participation of voters. Nighat Siddiqui, Director General of Pakistan’s Election Commission, also praised the election’s positive and sincere environment, highlighting the active participation of women, youth, and elderly voters. She commended the Election Commission’s efficient management.

According to the Election Commission, 394 international observers and 197 foreign journalists monitored the polls, with around one million security personnel deployed nationwide. Voting took place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. across 36,031 centers, recording a preliminary turnout of 47.9 percent. Final results and turnout figures are yet to be confirmed.
