The prosecution has filed a petition to frame formal charges against former leader Sheikh Hasina and seven others in connection with the killings of nine youths at Jahazbari in Kallyanpur, Dhaka. The case alleges that the incident was staged as a counterterrorism operation and constitutes crimes against humanity. The petition was submitted on Tuesday before the International Crimes Tribunal-1, chaired by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, with Justices Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury as panel members.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim presented the charges and sought formal indictment of the accused. The tribunal scheduled August 2 for the defense hearing after the defense requested additional time. Two of the accused, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque and former DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, were produced before the tribunal, while six others, including Sheikh Hasina, remain fugitives.

The case marks a significant development in the ongoing proceedings concerning alleged crimes against humanity linked to the 2016 Kallyanpur operation.
