UK Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer has resigned less than two years after his landslide election victory. His departure is widely linked to his government's stance on Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the United Kingdom’s continued support for Israel. Local elections and opinion polls indicated that many former Labour voters turned away from the party over its Gaza policy, shifting support to centrist or left-leaning alternatives.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Green Party leader Zack Polanski sharply criticized Starmer’s approach, accusing him of moral failure and complicity in atrocities. During his tenure, Starmer maintained intelligence and military cooperation with Israel, authorized arms exports, and faced allegations of ignoring evidence of war crimes. His government also banned the pro-Palestinian group “Palestine Action” and restricted entry to critics of Israel, while granting diplomatic privileges to Israeli officials.

Although Starmer’s administration recognized the State of Palestine in 2025 with conditions and imposed limited sanctions on Israeli settlements, his inconsistent foreign policy and domestic crackdowns left him isolated. Observers noted that his resignation followed growing dissatisfaction across political and public spheres.
