The National Constitution Party (NCP) has demanded a new constitution that safeguards people’s rights and ensures balance of power. Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said oral commitments to the July Charter are not enough—it must be given legal status. He argued that democracy cannot flourish under the current constitution and urged all political parties to unite on the matter. NCP leader Javed Rasin added that the party would not pursue joint movements or alliances on Proportional Representation (PR), but it does support implementing PR in the upper house. Akhtar also reiterated the party’s demand for multiparty democracy through such reforms.
