One man was killed and two others were seriously injured after local fishermen allegedly beat three people on suspicion of stealing fishing nets in Islampur, Jamalpur. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Ulia area near the Jamuna River. Police said they have begun investigating the case.

According to police and local sources, the three men travelled by a small boat to the Barul area of the Jamuna River. Local fishermen chased them on suspicion of net theft. The men then moved toward the Guthail area, where fishermen also followed them. When they reached Ulia, local people detained them and began beating them.

Nur Mohammad, 50, died at the scene during the mob beating. The injured men were identified as Jahangir, 40, of Batikamari in Gaibandha, and Rafiqul, 35, of Barkhal in Dewanganj. Islampur police station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident and said legal action was being processed. It could not immediately be confirmed whether the three men were involved in stealing nets.
