The Sylhet Press Club premises turned into a gathering of leaders from various political and professional backgrounds during an iftar event held at the club building on February 28, 2026. The discussion session before the iftar was chaired by club president Muktabis Un Noor. Among the guests were Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Opposition Leader and Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator and BNP district president Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury, and MPs Advocate Emran Ahmad Chowdhury and Mufti Md. Abul Hasan.

Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury acknowledged several local issues and said joint efforts were underway to resolve them, including progress on the Dhaka–Sylhet highway project. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized political coexistence and avoiding conflict for sustainable development, urging the government to allow the opposition space for positive politics. Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury highlighted journalists’ role in social progress and called for cooperation to build a clean and green city.

MP Emran Ahmad Chowdhury called for improved connectivity between Sylhet and Dhaka and lower airfares, adding that the Manchester flight would continue and a Sylhet–Birmingham route should be launched.
