A report recounts the final 24 hours of Golam Nafiz, a 16-year-old first-year Bangladesh Navy College student who was shot dead while joining a protest in Farmgate, Dhaka, on August 4, 2024. Nafiz left his Mahakhali home around 10 a.m., bought a red-and-green flag and tied it around his head before joining friends. His last call with his mother, Nazma Akter, was at 3 p.m., when he told her he was safe and would return home.

The report says Nafiz had been hit in the leg by rubber bullets during a July 18 protest in Mohakhali but continued participating in demonstrations. During an attack that separated protesters in Farmgate, he was shot in the chest, according to the account. Rickshaw driver Nur Mohammad tried to move him toward hospitals. Relatives identified Nafiz from an image on social media and searched several facilities before his uncle, Abul Hashem, found his body at Suhrawardy Hospital morgue.

The family alleged obstacles while taking the body home and during burial. The report says Nafiz was buried on August 5. Prosecutors have filed formal charges against 22 people, including former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, before International Crimes Tribunal-1 over the shooting deaths of Nafiz and two others. Arrest warrants were issued, and former additional deputy commissioner Sachin Moullick is the only arrested accused in the case, according to the report.
