Residents in Mohammadpur, Magura, and Chitalmari, Bagerhat, protested on Sunday over alleged irregularities in recruiting supervisors and data collectors for the Family Card census. Demonstrators demanded the removal of the respective upazila executive officers, while protesters in Chitalmari also sought the removal of the upazila social services officer.

In Mohammadpur, one faction of the BNP held a human chain, protest and rally demanding the removal of UNO Bedoboti Mistri, cancellation of the appointments and fresh recruitment on a transparent basis. Protesters alleged corruption, nepotism and the recruitment of fascist and Chhatra League workers. Another BNP group held a separate rally and said the recruitment had been transparent. Mistri said results were published by following policy guidelines and there was no scope for irregularities.

In Chitalmari, protesters demonstrated outside the upazila administration building against UNO Khadija Akter and Social Services Officer Ranjit Biswas. They alleged that advertised preference for applicants with Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics digital survey experience and higher educational qualifications was not followed. Offices were closed during the protest, which lasted from 9 a.m. to about noon, and additional police were deployed.
