The death toll from severe flooding and landslides in Nepal has risen to 633, according to Nepalese officials. More than 2,000 people remain missing, while search and rescue operations are continuing. Officials said that nearly 4,000 people have been rescued so far.

Further rainfall is forecast, raising concerns that efforts to locate missing people and conduct rescues could become more difficult. Areas along the Nepal-Tibet border are almost entirely covered by mud, water and debris. A United Nations spokesperson said several thousand families in Nepal are facing shortages of food and clean water.

China has confirmed seven deaths in Tibet. The European Union, Canada, the United States and other countries have announced plans to send relief supplies and financial assistance to Nepal. The report did not provide further details on the timing or scale of the pledged aid.
