Israeli military and intelligence officials have reportedly been surprised by the pace at which Iran is rebuilding its military capabilities after war began in late February. Citing a Jerusalem Post report, Amardesh said Iran is rapidly restoring offensive capabilities, including ballistic missiles. Israeli officials believe Tehran is producing new weapons faster than expected, according to the report published on August 15, 2026.

The report said Iran had about 1,300 missiles in June 2025, a figure that rose to about 2,500 before the war began in February 2026. US intelligence officials had also said in May that Iran was rebuilding military capabilities faster than their forecasts. The article, citing US officials, further claimed that China has continued supplying Iran with materials needed for missile production.

It also said US stocks of long-range precision missiles have declined significantly. As a result, a new major military operation against Iran could require the United States to rely more heavily on riskier air strikes. The Israel Defense Forces said Iran suffered major damage across several areas of its military capability during the war, while adding that it is regularly monitoring Iranian reconstruction efforts and updating its assessments and preparedness accordingly.
