National Citizen Party (NCP) chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary alleged that armed Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) supporters were patrolling outside a police station in Habiganj. In a Facebook post on the night of July 29, he said NCP members had gone inside the station to file a case while armed BNP supporters were outside. He questioned where the enforcement of Section 144 was and asked whether the situation was part of a plan.

The allegation followed an attack on an NCP march on Tuesday. On Wednesday night, NCP filed a case naming the Habiganj district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president as the main accused, along with 11 named people and 100 unidentified accused.

NCP's southern region chief organizer and Cumilla-4 member of parliament Hasnat Abdullah said those engaging in politics should do so openly under a banner and join BNP. Police officers stopped NCP leaders as they travelled to a rally in Habiganj on Wednesday. The report also referred to a scuffle during the police obstruction.
