RAB-14 arrested Fazlul Haque Bacchu in a case alleging an attack on a journalist and extortion in Sakhipur, Tangail. He was detained at about 2:30pm on Sunday in the Bottola area of Tangail Sadar upazila, according to a report published on 26 July 2026. Sakhipur police station Officer-in-Charge Md Helal Uddin PPM confirmed the arrest and said legal action was being taken against the accused.

The complainant, Nazrul Islam Nahid, Sakhipur upazila correspondent for The Bangladesh Today, alleged that Bacchu had demanded Tk500,000 after Nahid bought an old house with land in February. The property is located near SDS Mor on the Sakhipur-Batajor road in municipal ward 8, where a person had lived for about 15 years.

According to the case statement, a group led by Bacchu allegedly attacked Nahid, his wife and children on 12 July at about 12:30pm while shutter work was being carried out at a shop in front of Nahid's home. Local residents took the seriously injured Nahid to Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex. Nahid filed the extortion and assault case the same day. Bacchu had been absconding and was arrested nearly 14 days later. Police sources said he has seven to eight previous cases.
