Tension erupted in Dhaka’s Kadamtali area after the alleged suicide of Sabikun Nahar Sukannya, a tenth-grade student of Bright School and College. Students accused teachers of publicly humiliating her during a model test on May 20, which they claim led to her taking her own life later that day. On Thursday morning, hundreds of students gathered in front of the school, demanding justice and accountability. During the protest, they attacked the institution’s chairman, Masud Hasan Liton, who was later rescued by police and taken to hospital.

Videos circulating on social media showed students chanting slogans and holding placards, while some broke down in tears demanding justice. The incident quickly went viral, sparking widespread discussion online. Witnesses said several parents were also present, expressing concern over how students are treated in schools.

Police said an investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the suicide. Additional forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
