A court in Khulna has ordered the exhumation of the body of Mohammad Mohibuzzaman Kochi, a former office secretary of the city BNP, five months after his death on national election day. Kochi, aged 60, died on February 12 while serving as an election agent at the Alia Kamil Madrasa polling center in Khulna-2 constituency. The body was exhumed from Tutpara graveyard on Monday under the supervision of Executive Magistrate Nazmus Sakib and sent for a fresh autopsy following a request by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

According to the case record, Kochi was allegedly assaulted during a dispute with rival supporters at the polling center, leading to his death. The complaint accused the then acting principal of the madrasa, Abdur Rahim Sardar, and others of attacking him. However, opposing political candidates gave conflicting statements—BNP’s candidate claimed Kochi was killed in an attack, while a Jamaat candidate said he died of heart failure. Initial medical reports found no major external injuries, and police on duty reported no major clashes.

The case was filed under sections 302/34 of the Penal Code, and PBI is now investigating to determine the true cause of death.
