A section of the recently renovated road in Old Dhaka’s Dholai Khal area collapsed on Monday, prompting authorities to suspend traffic through the affected portion. The incident occurred near Narinda intersection, where a large hole formed beside the road island. No casualties were reported, but the collapse caused severe traffic congestion as vehicles were diverted to one side of the road.

According to the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), the collapse was triggered by soil erosion due to leakage in an old water pipe belonging to WASA. Repair work began immediately after the incident. Local residents said the road suddenly caved in during continuous rainfall on Sunday afternoon, after which police and residents cordoned off the area to prevent accidents.

DSCC officials inspected the site and started repairs. Sub-assistant engineer Md. Tarek Hossain stated that the main repair would take two to three days, while full restoration including concrete curing could take about ten days. One side of the road will remain open to reduce public inconvenience.
