The government has announced a major reshuffle in the senior ranks of the Bangladesh Police, appointing new Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) in three key ranges including Dhaka. According to a circular issued on Sunday, July 5, 2026, by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, six officers of DIG rank have been assigned new responsibilities. The order, signed by Deputy Secretary Tawsif Ahmed, stated that the changes were made for administrative needs and in the public interest.

As per the circular, DIG Md. Iqbal Hossain of the Special Branch has been appointed as the new DIG of Dhaka Range. Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Ashiq Saeed has been transferred to Rajshahi Range, while DIG Md. Mostafizur Rahman of Barishal Range will now serve as DIG of Khulna Range. DIG Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh from the Police Headquarters’ Administration Branch has been made Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police. DIG Md. Rezaul Haque of Khulna Range has been moved to Industrial Police, and DIG Mohammad Shahjahan of Rajshahi Range to the Armed Police Battalion.

The reshuffle follows a series of senior-level transfers initiated since the BNP government took office, aimed at improving administrative efficiency and strengthening law enforcement leadership.
