On Sunday, June 21, 2026, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Dhaka recorded the testimony of army member Imrul Kayes in a case concerning alleged crimes against humanity, including over a hundred enforced disappearances and killings during the Awami League government. The two-member tribunal, led by Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmood, heard Imrul’s account describing how former RAB intelligence director Ziaul Ahsan allegedly orchestrated the abduction of BNP leader Ilias Ali.
Imrul stated that he served in the Bangladesh Army from 2001 and was attached to RAB Headquarters between 2010 and 2012 as Ziaul Ahsan’s runner. He recounted events around April 2012, when Ilias Ali was abducted near Mohakhali, and claimed that Ahsan later destroyed CCTV footage. Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam told reporters that the testimony revealed details of a cross-border “killing network” spanning Bangladesh and India, and described an operation in Jaflong involving the execution of two unidentified individuals.
The tribunal presented Ziaul Ahsan under tight security during the hearing. The prosecution said the investigation and witness examination in the case remain ongoing.
