Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said sustainable improvement of law and order is the current government’s first and foremost agenda for establishing the rule of law and sustaining overall progress. He made the remarks on August 2 at a meeting with officers and personnel of all police units in Rajshahi, organised by Rajshahi Range and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police at Rajshahi Police Lines ground.

Ahmed said the police force is being run free from political influence under the PRB and existing laws, and that the Home Ministry will not make unjust political interventions. He said police had been misused for political interests under the previous government, but its image had improved considerably over the past five months. He also cited rewards, promotion ratings, IGP medals and financial incentives for officers showing bravery and public-service commitment.

The minister said cyber laboratories have been directed for every metropolitan area and needed district facilities, while CID forensic and chemical laboratory capacity is being expanded. He also said mob culture would not be tolerated. Separately, he said Bangladesh had sought a certified copy of bail conditions for former police chief Benazir Ahmed in the UAE and hired a law firm to pursue legal action to cancel the bail.
