A Border Guard Bangladesh member was killed after a speeding truck struck him while he was crossing a highway in Shibganj, Bogura, on Saturday morning. The crash occurred at about 9:45am in the Mokamtala Bandar area on the Rangpur-Bogura highway. The victim, Md Rafiqul Islam, 56, was serving as a havildar with the Patnitala Battalion of 14 BGB in Naogaon.

Rafiqul, son of Kofil Uddin Sarkar from Panthapara village in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram, had got off a bus at Mokamtala Bandar with a colleague while returning home on leave. According to Kundarhat Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Md Roich Uddin, the truck hit him forcefully as he attempted to cross the road, killing him at the scene.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura. The victim’s family has been informed. The truck driver fled with the vehicle after the crash, and police are trying to identify it. Legal action is being initiated, police said.
