Several devotees have expressed anger and disappointment following reports of large-scale financial irregularities in the donation funds of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, India. Allegations surfaced that cash, gold, and silver items donated by worshippers were embezzled. The case has reached the Supreme Court, which directed Uttar Pradesh Police to form a three-member special team. Based on its report, Ayodhya Police arrested eight individuals linked to the alleged misappropriation.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has denied all allegations, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vowed strict action, saying no one would be spared if found guilty. The accused, including temple staff responsible for counting donations, face charges of theft, criminal breach of trust, fraud, and conspiracy. The scandal began after whistleblower Mahipal Singh, a former accounts supervisor, raised internal concerns and was later removed from his post.

The controversy has drawn political attention, with opposition leaders demanding a court-monitored investigation and temporary suspension of trust members. The temple, inaugurated in 2024, reportedly received donations worth about 33 billion rupees in 2024–25, making it one of India’s wealthiest religious sites.
