Questions have arisen over police conduct in Godagari, Rajshahi, after a photo surfaced showing Abul Kalam Azad, a convicted drug dealer sentenced to 30 years in prison, waiting with his wife in the office of the local police officer-in-charge (OC). The incident reportedly occurred in early July when Azad and his wife visited the Godagari Model Police Station. Local residents criticized the sighting, saying it undermines ongoing anti-drug efforts.

Sources alleged that despite recent anti-drug meetings and community policing programs, police operations have weakened, and some known drug dealers maintain close contact with law enforcement. Allegations also emerged against two sub-inspectors for leaking information about anti-drug operations. Both officers denied the claims, citing their recent postings.

Local civic leaders called for transparent investigations into any police links with drug traders and demanded stronger anti-drug drives. Residents also questioned Azad’s unexplained wealth, urging authorities to trace the sources of his assets. The OC denied all allegations and invited verification through CCTV footage.
