An armed robbery and sexual assault took place in the newly formed Matamuhuri upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Monday night. A group of seven to eight armed robbers entered a house in the Dolunighona area of Purba Bara Vewla Union by cutting the window grills. They looted cash and gold ornaments before assaulting the homeowner’s wife and her tenth-grade daughter. Police, with help from local residents, later arrested six suspects in connection with the incident.

According to police and locals, the husband of the assaulted woman works in Chattogram, while she lived at home with her two daughters. After the attack, locals rescued the victims and took them to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, from where doctors referred them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment. Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhijit Das and Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monir Hossain visited the scene.

Police identified the detainees as residents of Matamuhuri upazila and said multiple teams are working to uncover others involved in the crime.
