A Dhaka court has set September 1 to deliver its verdict in a corruption case over the construction of the collapsed Rana Plaza building in Savar. The case involves building owner Sohel Rana and seven other accused. The verdict had been scheduled for August 16 at the court of Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir, but was deferred because the judgment was not ready.

The other accused include former Savar municipal mayor Refat Ullah, former chief executive officer Uttam Kumar Roy, executive engineer Rafiqul Islam, former assistant engineer Mahbubur Rahman, former sub-assistant engineer Rakibul Hasan Russell, former town planner Farzana Islam and licence inspector Md Abdul Mottalib. Sohel Rana's father Abdul Khaleq and mother Marzina Khatun Begum were exempted from the case after they died during the trial.

According to the allegations, the Rana Plaza building near Savar bus stand collapsed on April 24, 2013, killing 1,136 people and injuring more than 1,500. The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against 17 people on June 15, 2014 over construction outside the approved design. Investigators later found evidence of Sohel Rana's involvement as the building's main overseer. Nineteen of 20 witnesses testified before the case reached the verdict stage.
