A fire broke out late Tuesday night in the medicine store room of Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when smoke was seen coming from the ground-floor storage area. Patients and their relatives raised alarms, prompting nearby residents to gather. Two units of the Fire Service and Civil Defense arrived quickly and brought the fire under control after about 30 minutes of effort.
According to Barishal Fire Service Assistant Director Md. Selim, only smoke was visible when they reached the site, and the fire did not spread further. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is underway to determine its origin. Hospital Assistant Director (Finance and Store) Dr. Abdul Munayem Saad stated that some medicines and electrical wires were damaged in the incident.
Authorities are conducting an inquiry to identify the source of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
