The national parliamentary election and referendum in Sunamganj were held peacefully, with no major untoward incidents reported. According to unofficial results from polling centers, all five constituencies in the district were won by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidates by large margins. However, the full official results had not yet been announced by the returning officer’s office at the time of reporting.

In Sunamganj-1, BNP’s Kamruzzaman Kamrul received 163,705 votes, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami’s Maulana Tofayel Ahmad Khan, who secured 91,176 votes. In Sunamganj-2, Nasir Uddin Chowdhury of BNP won with 97,792 votes, while his closest rival, Jamaat candidate Advocate Shishir Monir, received 57,806 votes and publicly congratulated Chowdhury on social media. In Sunamganj-3, BNP’s Koysar M Ahmad won with 96,666 votes against rebel BNP candidate Barrister Anwar Hossain, who got 41,984 votes.

In Sunamganj-4, BNP’s Advocate Nurul Islam Nurul secured 97,555 votes, defeating 11-party alliance candidate Advocate Shams Uddin, who received 74,018 votes. In Sunamganj-5, BNP’s Kalim Uddin Milon won with 152,997 votes, while 11-party alliance candidate Abdus Salam Al Madani obtained 99,928 votes.
