Four police personnel, including two officers from Pirgachha police station in Rangpur, have been withdrawn and attached to the police lines following allegations that Monarul Islam Bakshi was thrown from a roof and killed during a raid in Savar. The action was taken on Saturday night after the operation to recover a female student. The withdrawn members are SI Konok Ranjan Barman, ASI Md Osman Ali, constable Prashanta Kumar and Sumi Akter.

According to the victim’s family, a nine-member team led by SI Konok Chandra Barman raided BPATC quarters in Savar late on Thursday, acting on a general diary concerning a student who had left home. It was alleged that the complainant in the diary, Awami League leader Mintu Mia, and his brother-in-law Mintu were present in plain clothes. The allegation says Monarul was thrown from the roof during the operation.

Relatives, local residents and political colleagues protested outside Pirgachha police station on Saturday, demanding exemplary punishment. Officer-in-Charge Selim Malick said separate inquiry committees had been formed in Dhaka and Rangpur. Savar Model Police Station’s OC Saiful Islam said action would be taken if allegations against two personnel who assisted the operation were proven.
