Maulana ABM Musharraf Hossain, who was forced to leave his position as the Imam of Barishal Collectorate Mosque for praying for Delawar Hossain Sayeedi, has returned after 14 years. On Friday, he led Jumu’ah prayers at the mosque. Musharraf had allegedly been forced to resign by the then-administration on March 14, 2010. Since then, the Imam’s position has remained vacant. As it is not a government position, no legal complications exist. Locals are demanding his full reinstatement. The mosque’s Khatib, Sani Imam Hafiz Abdullah Al Mamun, stated that the divisional commissioner has permitted Maulana Musharraf to continue leading prayers after Ramadan.
