Controversy has erupted following allegations that Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gono Odhikar Parishad, was confined and assaulted during an attack on the BNP office at Charbishwas Union in Galachipa Upazila.

Nur claimed that on Thursday night, he and his associates were held hostage on the orders of Hasan Mamun. However, Howlader Ifteyas Uddin Joy, former Joint Secretary of Dashmina Upazila BNP, dismissed the claims as fabricated. “These are ghost stories,” he said, accusing Nur’s followers of launching the attack on the BNP office. “Everyone knows the kind of person who fled the area after being thrashed by locals despite once holding the title of VP,” he added, referring to Nur’s controversial past.
