Recommendation for Public Toilets in the DAP
Public toilets or sanitation facilities are essential for public health, safety, and social dignity. When properly constructed, public toilets reduce the spread of diseases and ensure privacy for personal needs, especially for women, children, and people with disabilities. The population of Dhaka city is continuously increasing, along with the pressure on civic services. This has had a serious impact on the public health and social interactions of urban residents. In this situation, to build a modern, livable, and humane city, there is no alternative but to ensure minimum basic services and infrastructure. Importantly, this must be continuous and based on equity. Public toilets are a key part of this infrastructure, though they often remain outside discussions, despite their immense importance in maintaining citizen health, safety, social inclusion, and environmental protection.
