Police statistics show Bangladesh recorded 1,775 killings and more than 10,000 incidents of violence against women and children during the first six months of the year. In a report published on August 4, killings rose from 287 in January to 323 in June, while reported violence against women and children increased from 1,281 to 2,194. Reports of snatching, robbery, extortion and attacks in Dhaka and elsewhere have heightened public fears over security.

On August 2, at least three killings were reported in Dhaka and other districts, alongside the recovery of two bodies and the shooting of one person during a snatching incident. Robbers were accused of taking about Tk 6 million on the Teknaf-Cox's Bazar highway after blocking vehicles with trees; one passenger was injured by gunfire. In Kalabagan, a man named Shipon was accused of killing his wife and mother-in-law and later surrendered. In Raipura, Momen Mia was shot dead and three others were injured.

A total of 18,749 cases were recorded in June, described as the highest monthly figure in the report. Police found no explosives in two abandoned objects recovered beneath Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said all such incidents were under investigation, while police said intelligence work, special operations and patrols had been strengthened.
