Jute is being cultivated on 86,000 hectares across eight upazilas, involving more than 500,000 farmers. Despite early drought concerns and rising costs, favorable weather has improved yield and fiber quality. Officials believe this could solidify Faridpur’s position as the top jute-producing district in Bangladesh.

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past month has flooded low-lying lands, ditches, and ponds across Faridpur, creating ideal conditions for jute retting. Farmers say the availability of sufficient water this year will result in high-quality jute fiber with a brighter color. Officials anticipate that if favorable weather continues, jute production in the district may exceed 200,000 tons this season, with a potential market value of over Tk 20 billion (2,000 crore).
