Deadly August 5: 30 Killed in Savar Victory Rally Shooting

On August 5 last year, a peaceful student and public rally in Savar was violently disrupted when law enforcement and ruling party cadres opened fire, killing at least 30 people and injuring over 200. The march began near Jahangirnagar University and escalated near Savar bus stand and police station with clashes lasting into the evening. Despite a year passing, families of the victims express frustration over the lack of justice and demand swift punishment for those responsible.

Bloody August 5 30 Students and People Martyred in Shooting During Victory Rally in Savar

On August 5 last year, at least 30 people were killed when law enforcement agencies and ruling Awami League cadres opened fire indiscriminately on a peaceful victory rally by students and the public in Savar. More than two hundred people were injured in the incident. Even after one year has passed, the families of the martyrs have expressed disappointment over the lack of visible progress in the trial.
