Chief Adviser Seeks Canada’s Assistance in Recovering Smuggled Funds
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has sought the cooperation of the Canadian government in repatriating funds laundered from Bangladesh to Canada. He made this request during a meeting with Canada’s High Commissioner to Dhaka, Ajit Singh, at the state guest house Jamuna on Tuesday. Professor Yunus stated, “During the autocratic rule of Sheikh Hasina, oligarch businessmen, her close associates, and political figures have stolen hundreds of billions of US dollars from Bangladesh. A portion of these funds has been smuggled to Canada, particularly through the purchase of assets in Toronto’s notorious ‘Begum Para’ area.”
