BUET-Designed Battery Rickshaws to Replace Current Models in Dhaka

To tackle the widespread and often chaotic use of battery-powered autorickshaws in Dhaka, authorities are planning to introduce a new model developed by BUET. In a recent meeting with law enforcement and local stakeholders, Dhaka South City Corporation presented this model, which prioritizes safety features like foot brakes and regulated speed. If approved by the Ministry of Local Government, only licensed rickshaws built under this design will be allowed on city streets. Existing rickshaws will be gradually phased out. This initiative aims for nationwide adoption, with training provided for drivers if needed.

Plan to Introduce BUET-Recommended Battery Rickshaws

In an effort to curb the rampant presence of battery-powered autorickshaws on the streets of the capital, the interim government is exploring alternative solutions. As part of this initiative, plans are underway to introduce a new model of battery-powered rickshaws developed and recommended by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

The ‘1 Nojor’ media platform is now live in beta, inviting users to explore and provide feedback as we continue to refine the experience.
