At least 18 people were killed and nearly 50 injured in three separate road crashes on Friday on highways in Sylhet and Bogura, Bangladesh. Nine people died when two buses collided head-on in Osmaninagar on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. In Bogura Sadar, a bus ran over day labourers at Erulia Bazar, killing seven, while a private car struck a motorcycle near Erulia Airport, killing a married couple.

The Osmaninagar crash occurred around 7:15am between a Unique Paribahan bus travelling from Sylhet to Dhaka and a Bengal sleeper coach travelling in the opposite direction. All those killed were passengers of the Unique bus, as were most of the injured. Police, highway police and fire service personnel jointly conducted rescue work, sent at least 30 people to hospitals and seized both damaged buses. Several injured people were reported in critical condition.

In Erulia, the Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan coach reportedly lost control and ran into labourers, injuring 17 others. Residents blocked the highway for four hours, alleging recurring crashes because there was no speed breaker. Traffic resumed after officials promised to build one. The district administration provided 25,000 taka for each person killed and 15,000 taka for injured families. The private car was seized, while its driver fled and police said legal action was under way.
