Casino King Sentenced
The Dhaka Special Tribunal has sentenced Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, also known as the “Casino King” and former president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League (now expelled), to life imprisonment in an arms case.
Dhaka Special Tribunal-2 has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, widely known as the “Casino King” and former president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League, in an arms-related case. The verdict was announced on Tuesday, 28 October, by Judge Md. Ibrahim Mia. Samrat remains absconding, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued. He was originally arrested on 6 October 2019 in Chauddagram, Comilla, by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), following which a raid at his Kakrail office uncovered large quantities of foreign liquor, pistols, and skins of rare wildlife. Earlier, he received a six-month sentence for possession of wildlife skins. The formal case was filed on 7 October 2019, and after investigation, a charge sheet was submitted in November 2020. The trial included testimony from 10 of 14 witnesses, with arguments concluded on 7 October 2025.
