12 Youth Missing for 7 Months — Families Clueless If They're Lost at Sea or on Land

Sajib Sardar, son of a poor family, left Bangladesh on October 18 last year with hopes of a better life in Italy. According to his family, he and his cousin Rakib Sardar made an oral agreement with a local broker, Golam Mahbub Alam Borhan, to pay Tk 1.6 million each for the journey. However, they were later sold to Libyan mafias in the Zohara area. After being sold twice and tortured, Sajib’s family had to sell their only home and pay Tk 4.6 million to free him. Despite this, Sajib succumbed to the abuse and died on March 19.
