Border Guard Bangladesh's Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) detained eight Bangladeshi women while they were allegedly attempting to enter India illegally through the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga. The detentions took place at 6:10am on Friday, August 7, during a special patrol in the area under Benipur BOP, according to a 58 BGB news release issued that evening.
BGB said the women were detained beside a paddy field belonging to Md. Ismail Hossain in Nabadurga Pur village, about 500 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 62/5-S. The operation was led by Subedar Md. Firoz. Maheshpur Battalion Assistant Director Munshi Imdadur Rahman confirmed the detentions.
The detainees were handed over to Jibannagar Police Station after a case was filed against them, Rahman said. Jibannagar Police Station Inspector Solaiman Sheikh said BGB filed the case as complainant. He added that all eight women were produced before a court later that afternoon.
