Hilsa harvest has fallen sharply this year, with a 38–48% decline compared to 2023, according to Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter. She cited river pollution, climate change, and harmful fishing practices by non-fishermen as key reasons. Over 600 experts from home and abroad attended the event, which highlighted innovative solutions for resilient fisheries and aquaculture.

Fish and livestock adviser Farida Akhter has said that river pollution, climate change, and several other factors have led to an alarming decline in hilsa catch this year. According to her, hilsa harvest in the current season has dropped by 38 to 48 percent compared to last year.
