A 16-year-old student, Jamil Sheikh, died after a clash over a goal during a football match in Sherpur, Bogura, on Monday afternoon. Local sources said an argument among players escalated into a physical confrontation. Jamil reportedly tried to calm the situation when a player named Shakil kicked him in the stomach and struck him repeatedly. He collapsed and died while being taken to hospital.
Jamil was the son of Rafiqul Islam from Sherua village in Shahbandegi union of the upazila. He was a tenth-grade student at Palli Unnayan Academy Laboratory School and College. The report said tensions spread in the area after the incident, but the situation is now normal. His family is mourning his death.
Shahbandegi Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident and said such a tragedy over sports was unacceptable. He offered condolences to Jamil's family and called for responsible conduct to prevent similar incidents. Sherpur police station Officer-in-Charge S M Moinuddin said legal action would be taken if a complaint is filed.
