Unskilled Teachers in Classroom: Weak Foundation in Math and English Begins at Primary Level
A long-standing flaw in Bangladesh’s education system has now become glaringly evident. In the 2024 Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams, 31.55% of students failed—the highest failure rate since 2009. Analyzing the results reveals that a large portion of students performed poorly in Mathematics and English. Experts note that a child’s foundation in these subjects is primarily formed during the primary education stage. However, due to teachers’ lack of preparedness, subject-matter incompetence, and systemic inefficiencies in teacher recruitment, the quality of education at the foundational level is being severely compromised.
