India’s New Bill: PM, CMs to Lose Office After 30 Days in Jail

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today tabled a constitutional amendment bill in the Lok Sabha, proposing that if the Prime Minister, any Union Minister, Chief Minister, or minister of a Union Territory is arrested on serious criminal charges and remains in custody for 30 consecutive days, they will automatically lose office from the 31st day onward. This provision would apply even without a conviction.
