UN: Police Became More Aggressive When Chhatra League Failed
A UN report has revealed how the ousted Awami League government deployed both police and party cadres to suppress the July-August student protests. Chhatra League leaders and activists were mobilized and incited to carry out armed attacks on protesting students, with senior Awami League leaders, including General Secretary Obaidul Quader and Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, leading the effort. This information was disclosed in an investigative report by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), published on Wednesday, February 12.
