Bangladesh is boosting seasonal fruit exports, especially mangoes, jackfruits, and pineapples, aiming to tap into the global market. Despite increased production, farmers face challenges due to low prices and post-harvest losses. Government initiatives, improved logistics, and "mango diplomacy" are expanding export potential to China, Europe, and the Middle East. Local consumers are also favoring domestic fruits over imports. With rising global demand and proper support, Bangladesh can significantly increase foreign earnings through fruit exports in the coming years.

"The Role of Increased Seasonal Fruit Exports in Strengthening Bangladesh’s Agricultural Economy"

Mangoes, lychees, pineapples, and bananas are currently flooding the markets in large volumes. Jackfruits have also started arriving. These fruits hold significant value in the country's agricultural economy. According to the Bengali calendar, the month of Joishtho marks the height of summer. Amid intense heat, laborers and common people alike find comfort in the abundance of juicy fruits available during this period. The aroma and sweetness of these fruits fill the air, bringing a sense of delight. Because of the availability of such delicious fruits, Joishtho is popularly referred to as “Madhumas” (The Month of Sweetness)—a term popularized since the 1980s, particularly through the media. While the literal meaning of "Madhumas" refers to the month of Chaitra, modern usage now associates it with Joishtho.
