China Imposes Counter-Sanctions on Six US Officials
China has announced counter-sanctions on several US Congress members, government officials, and NGO heads, accusing them of “vile behavior” over the Hong Kong issue. The move comes in response to sanctions imposed last month by the United States on six officials from mainland China and Hong Kong. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed the sanctions on Monday (April 21) afternoon, according to a report by Reuters. He stated that these countermeasures are a direct response to Washington’s previous sanctions and strongly condemned the US decision. “If the United States continues to take wrongful steps regarding Hong Kong, China will implement firm and reciprocal measures,” warned Guo Jiakun.
