Fiscal Year 2024-25: Revenue Collection Falls Short by Tk 92,626 Crore
The government has faced a major shortfall in revenue collection in the recently concluded fiscal year 2024-25. The National Board of Revenue (NBR), responsible for collecting state revenues, failed to meet even the revised target. The last two months of the fiscal year—May and June—were marred by unrest within the NBR due to ongoing protests, leading to instability. Typically, revenue collection peaks in June, but this time the impact of the unrest was clearly reflected, especially in the customs and VAT sectors.
